Snowy Showdown: Browns Defeat Steelers 24-19 on Thursday Night Football
What began as a wintry mix quickly escalated into blizzard-like conditions in the second half, setting the stage for a dramatic 24-19 Browns victory, sealed by a late touchdown from running back Nick Chubb.
With the temperature at a chilly 32°F at kickoff, the first half turned into a defensive standoff. The Steelers broke the deadlock in the second quarter with a 48-yard field goal from kicker Chris Boswell. However, the Browns responded with a 12-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown from Chubb. A Cleveland field goal just before halftime gave the Browns a 10-3 edge.
Defensive standout Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was a disruptive force, recording three sacks and a forced fumble by halftime.
As the teams emerged for the second half, snow began to blanket the field, creating picturesque yet challenging conditions for players and fans alike.
The Browns extended their lead in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jameis Winston scored on a two-yard dive and followed it with a successful two-point conversion, pushing the score to 18-6.
However, the Steelers mounted a comeback, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to take a 19-18 lead with just over six minutes remaining.
A critical moment came late in the fourth quarter when a shanked punt by Pittsburgh’s Corliss Waitman handed Cleveland prime field position. Chubb capitalized with his second touchdown of the night, putting the Browns ahead 24-19.
Chubb’s touchdowns marked the 50th and 51st of his career, a milestone in his comeback from a serious knee injury last season.
The Steelers had one last chance, with quarterback Russell Wilson launching a Hail Mary in the final seconds, but Browns safety Grant Delpit batted it away to secure the win.
Tempers flared after the final whistle, with Steelers receiver George Pickens and Browns cornerback Greg Newsome involved in a brief scuffle, quickly diffused. Pickens dismissed the incident as “nothing” but took a jab at Cleveland, claiming the snowy conditions “kinda saved them.” With the victory, the Browns improved to 3-8, while the Steelers fell to 8-3.

November Football
Before the game, Winston aptly described the snowy conditions as “exciting football” and “November football.” Despite his poetic musings, it was his first time playing in snow or temperatures below 40°F.
After the game, Winston reflected on the experience, calling it “beautiful.” He told Amazon Prime’s Kaylee Hartung, “When I woke up this morning and Face Timed my wife, my boys were eating the snow. So, I thought, man, it would be wonderful to eat the snow. And we got this win, so I’m definitely going to eat some snow today.”
Winston admitted the snow presented challenges, including visibility issues that led him to remove his visor mid-game. But his optimism remained undeterred: “Vision was everything... I’m just happy I could see a victory today.”
The night ended with Winston and the broadcast crew making snow angels and tossing snowballs, embracing the unique atmosphere.
Looking ahead, the Steelers will travel to Cincinnati to face the Bengals on December 1, while the Browns head to Denver to take on Bo Nix and the Broncos on December 2.
